The mortal instruments city of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Hello avid readers of the internet, I'm back and with another review with the ever popular The Mortal Instruments:- City of bones by Cassandra Clare.

This book is about a sixteen year old girl named Clary (Clarissa) Fray, Whom finds out she is a
book cover
shadow-hunter (due to her mother-Jocelyn- being kidnapped) a shadow-hunter is basically a person whom has angel blood in them, together all around the world these hunters fight mystical beings (down-worlders) such as: Vampires, (not the sparkly type) werewolf's and demons.

Clary and the other shadow hunters: Jace, Isabelle, Alex and Hodge (with the help of Clary's best friend Simon) fight the evil Valentine Fairchild (Clary's father) and stop him from finding the mortal cup before the whole world ends! (FYI humans are known as MUNDANES)

before I continue with the reason I like the book here are the characters:

  • Clary (Clarissa Fray)-16-17 year old girl who finds out she's a shadow-hunter
  • Jocelyn Fray- Clary's mum and ex shadow hunter
  • Luke (Lucian) Garroway (Graymark)- Jocelyn's best friend and Clary's father figure
  • Simon Lewis- Clary's best friend and another love interest
  • Jace Wayland- !6-17 year old shadow-hunter and Clary's love interest
  •  Isabelle lightwood/Alec: Brother and sisters and are shadowhunters and friends with Jace
  • Hodge- Alec's Jace's and Isabelle's mentor
  • Valentine Morgenstein- Jocelyn's husband and Clary's father as well as an evil mastermind

I like this book as it has a lot of mystery and surprises in it especially at the end as you'll be saying to a certain character "I TRUSTED YOU AND YOU BETRAYED ME!'  also I like the fact it plays about with myths and legends and kind of brings back the horror and scariness that has been taken away from mythical creatures! (*cough* sparkly *cough* vampires *cough*).

I also like the fact that like many book series with women as the main heroine ie:- The hunger games, Divergent and The fault in our stars. Show that we can be as strong and as smart as men and are not damsels in distress that do not scream at the first signs of danger! (which this book shows a lot of)  I also like the amount of action there is as there's alot of fighting, but its the kind of fighting that keeps the story fresh, exciting and imminent.

BUT! The one thing I do hate is the continuation of LOVE TRIANGLES! Now I understand it helps show the main characters growing up etc etc BUT I AM FED UP WITH THEM, it's unnecessary in this type of book. I for one am fed up of seeing them as they are boring and repetitive... so please stop with the love triangles PLEASE! The book will still work without that triangle just look at Harry potter, Divergent and Percy Jackson.

Overall I loved the book just hated the love triangle! you can buy the book here  and here
Until the next post have a good time BYE!
